Letter to the editor re: “Russian-Canadian director responds to TIFF documentary backlash,” The Globe and Mail, 8 September 2024
Russia invaded Ukraine. Russian war crimes have been thoroughly exposed and well-documented by various individuals and organizations. It is widely known that the Russians are waging a genocidal war against Ukraine and Ukrainians.
Judging by what many Russian soldiers and commanders have stated publicly, it’s clear that almost every Russian fighting in Ukraine today is complicit in crimes against humanity.
If any Russian soldiers feel otherwise they should surrender to the Ukrainians or leave the Ukrainian territory they have invaded. However, if they are in any way involved with the invasion of Ukrainian lands, they are aggressors and, as such, are responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
That my tax dollars were wasted on funding a Russian propaganda film, at a time when thousands of innocent Ukrainian children have been kidnapped and many thousands more Ukrainians are being murdered every day by these Russian fascists, is unbearable.
Defund TIFF now.
